Erasmus+ seminar in Tunis

Iscte participates in Erasmus+ seminar in Tunis and reinforces Euro-African academic cooperation in humanitarian response

🌍 Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (Erasmus Mundus Human Response coordinator) took part in the international seminar “Erasmus+ Aiming Higher: Mediterranean Bridges Across Africa and Europe for Shared Academic Pathways”, which took place in Tunis from 20 to 23 April 2026.

📚 This event brought together higher education institutions from Europe and Africa, strengthening intercontinental dialogue and promoting new opportunities for academic cooperation.
Iscte’s participation was led by Alejandra Ortiz, Director of the International Relations Office, helping to consolidate strategic partnerships and identify new avenues for collaboration within the Euro-African space.

A highlight was the Erasmus Mundus Human Response, a truly innovative and distinctive programme:
– The first Erasmus Mundus programme to offer a full teaching semester delivered by an African partner in Africa, at Makerere University (Uganda)
– The first Erasmus Mundus programme to include Full Partners from Cape Verde or Mozambique
– Includes partners from English-speaking and Portuguese-speaking African countries (Uganda, Cape Verde and Mozambqiue)
– Four African universities among the consortium’s seven full partners
This programme prepares professionals to work in crisis contexts, focusing on humanitarian response, health and population displacement – areas of increasing importance on the global stage.

Participation in this seminar reinforces Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and Erasmus Mundus Human Response consortium role in promoting innovative academic solutions, international cooperation and education with a social impact.
