The applications for scholarships to the second edition of the Master Human Response are open. The deadline is 09.01.2026 (9 January 2026), at 17.00, CET time.

Requirements
Mandatory documentation to upload is:
- Valid Passport
- Photograph
- Diplomas (from previous degrees completed)
- Transcript of records (diploma supplement) with all courses and grades (from previous completed degrees)
- English proficiency test results certificate (from one of the required tests). Code for certificate validation.
- Curriculum vitae
- Statement of purpose (mandatory to upload a pdf document)
- 2 signed and dated Recommendation Letters
All of the identified documentation is mandatory. Applications missing any of the above mentioned documents will not be considered as eligible.
Erasmus Mundus Human Response applicants do not need to pay application fees.
Only candidates with a Bachelor degree (180 ECTS) can be admitted.
Proof of English proficiency is mandatory.
- Applications not submitting test certificates or submitting expired tests will not be considered as eligible.
- Applications submitting certificates with scores lower than the indicated for each test will not be considered as eligible.
- Tests will only be considered valid if taken up to 2 years and 5 months before the application date. (The expiry date of the certificates indicated by the institutions responsible for the tests shall prevail if the period indicated is less than 2 years and 5 months).
Accepted tests of English proficiency and minimum scores are:
TOEFL (iBT, MyBest, or at-home) – With a minimum 92 overall score (out of 120). Applicants must meet the overall and subtest requirements, including TOEFL MyBest.
IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) – With a minimum overall score of 6.5 (out of 9) and no individual score below 5.5. Applicants must meet the overall and subtest requirements with a single test.
PTE Academic (Pearson’s Test of Academic English) – With a minimum overall score of 76 (out of 90).
Cambridge English C1 Advanced (formerly known as CAE) – With a minimum result of grade C1 – (minimum overall score of 180 out of 210 on Cambridge Scale Score)
Cambridge English C2 Proficiency (formerly known as CPE) – With a minimum result of grade C1 – (minimum overall score 180 out of 230 on Cambridge Scale Score).
Duolingo English Test – With a minimum overall score of 135 with no less than 100 in any component.
Candidates are exempt of English proof of proficiency if:
- They are from a country where English is the official language and where they attended and completed secondary education (proof of completion of secondary education in that country must be provided).
- They have attended and completed a secondary level of education certified by an International Baccalaureate or the IGCSE corresponding level (proof of completion of secondary education in those programs must be provided).
- The language of instruction during the entire BA programme was English – in this case, the language of instruction must be clearly stated on the diploma/transcripts. Alternatively, you can submit a stated and signed letter from the Academic Registrar’s Office, the Examinations Office, or the equivalent office that issues official documents of records at your university.
Candidates may be called for an interview to attest English proficiency level
Selection
The candidates final score will be obtained through the following criteria:

Candidates who meet the entry requirements will be assessed in each of the indicated criteria.
Costs and funding
Scholarships
- Student scholarships are allocated as per the Erasmus Mundus guidelines for 15 scholarships per edition.
- Each student will be allocated 1400 Euros per month.
- Students with scholarship do not pay fees.
- 24 months insurance is provided to all students.
Note: students who have already benefitted from an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship are not eligible to apply for an additional scholarship
Self-funded
- Tuition fee is 16.000,00 EUR for the two years of the Master (according to the Erasmus+ programme regulations, some self-funded student vacancies may be exempt of tuition fees).
- 24 months insurance is provided to all students.
Typical costs (every students)
- Travel expenses (example for the first intake of the programme)
- From home country to Portugal (1st semester);
- From Portugal to Norway (2nd semester);
- From Norway to Cape Verde (summer school – intake 1 june 2026);
- From Cape Verde to Uganda (3rd semester);
- From Uganda to one of the 25 Associated Partners or Full partners to do field work for dissertation (Brazil, Cape Verde, Colombia, Greece, Portugal, Mozambique, Norway, Nepal or Uganda);
- From field work location to dissertation presentation – If the field work location is different from Full Partner university where student will be presenting/defending its dissertation thesis
- Returning home;
- Housing (rent, gas, water, electricity, internet)
- Living expenses (food, transportation, health, telephone)
- VISA/Residency permit costs – be aware of the visa request and issuing costs (taxes, proof of means of subsistence…) for all countries.
The European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), in the context of managing the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters, collects and processes the personal data of some of the candidates. In particular, certain data of the scholarship holders and non-scholarship holders is shared with the Agency and treated according to this privacy statement
