Specialized nurse, public health professional and experienced humanitarian with over 15 years in global health and holder of a MSc in Public Health, with particular interest in the interseccions of health policy and health seeking-behaviours.
Teresa has worked in emergency settings across Sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South America, and the Middle East, leading surge responses and capacity-building initiatives. Her focus has been on reinforcing the localization and promoting knowledge transfer. As Senior Health Advisor for an iNGO, she is responsible for humanitarian health programming strategy design and technical leadership for emergency health responses to sudden-onset disasters, epidemics, and conflict zones.
Recently, Teresa has led responses for public health emergencies in Zambia, Malawi, Rwanda, and Ukraine during the Russian invasion, and has been deeply involved in capacity-building activities in South Sudan, Turkey, and Afghanistan. Prior to this, she held clinical, managerial, and leadership roles for health programs in Bangladesh, Venezuela, South Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau for another iNGO. Teresa also contributes to academia as an invited professor at ISCTE, teaching Public Health in Humanitarian Action in the Humanitarian Action Master's and is an assistant researcher at CIES-ISCTE. Additionally, she integrates the WHO EURO technical working group for Knowledge and Information Systems at regional level.
